Erwin McManus is Against the Apostle Peter
Published March 24th, 2007 by Ken Silva in Emerging Church, Erwin McManus, False Teachers“My goal is to destroy Christianity as a world religion and be a recatalyst for the movement of Jesus Christ,” McManus, author of a new book called “The Barbarian Way,” said in a telephone interview. “Some people are upset with me because it sounds like I’m anti-Christian. I think they might be right.”
The author recording the quote above in the Christian Examiner then says, “On paper it can sound flippant, arrogant and somewhat blasphemous.” That’s because in typical McManus bravado it is flippant and arrogant, not to mention just plain stupid. Because Simon Peter, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, who risked far more than Erwin’s big and blustery talk - even giving his very life as a Christian said:
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. (1 Peter 4:15-16)
How much longer must weak-willed people be taken in by these foolish Emergent self-proclaimed “Christ-followers”? Translation: rejecters of Biblical Christianity. The answer lies in the rest of this passage from Peter. Halleujah, let our God arise:
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. (vv.17-19)
Even so, come Lord Jesus as the Refiner’s fire. Soli Deo gloria!
