Evangelism and Election
Published May 2nd, 2007 by Dwayna in Evangelism, Gospel, Scriptural AuthorityI recently posted an easy explanation of our role in evangelism and God’s predestination of people based on Scripture entitled Total Depravity and the Doctrine of Election on my blog. Here is an excerpt:
“…no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.” John 6:65
“All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me.” John 6: 37
Salvation of a person has been predestined before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4-5), and God does not need us to save His elect—He will use me, or He will get another Christian to witness to the person—I am privileged to be used by God, but God does not need me in the work of salvation.
Furthermore, no one will end up in hell because of a lack of witnessing on my part. It would be arrogant of me to think that I had that much to do with anyone’s salvation! Jesus said, "ALL that the Father gives Me will come to Me," and He is sure to get all of them (who have been predestined), with or without me. But, we are commanded to tell, and we are doing God’s work when we evangelize. There is nothing closer to God’s heart. However, it is still His work and not our own.

God is not the least bit disingenuous about His election of His people. It is glorious and humbling to examine such precious verses which show that salvation is God’s work and not man’s.
