The Emerging Bat Out Of Hell
Published July 11th, 2007 by Editor in Emerging Church, Erwin McManus, GeneralEmerging pastor David Trotter blogs about the recent Origins Conference, sponsored by Erwin McManus’ Mosaic Alliance:
Session 1: Transcendant Calling – Alex McManus: Alex asked us "how did you get here?" His main point was a reminder that no one (including ourselves) brought us to this point – God did. God has called us to do what we’re doing. (editor’s note: fatalism)
Session 2: Primal Essence – Erwin McManus: Erwin talked about the need to deconstruct the church as an organization and create a movement. Less organization – more chaos… He said that he is more like a bat (blind and flying at night). More like a bat out of hell and never wanting to go back. (editor’s note: Is that being led by the Spirit?)
Session 3: Mission Is Why The Church Exists – Alex McManus: He talked about the fact that we’re not trying to convert people to Christianity, we’re inviting them to join us in following Jesus. Small difference that has huge ramifications. (editor’s note: It has huge eternal ramifications!)
When we live life to serve and reach others – that’s when we find out true identity. Being "truly human" isn’t about serving ourselves. (editor’s note: that’s the social gospel, not the Biblical Gospel where our identity is in Christ)
