Who cares if T.D. Jakes Denies the Trinity?

Scripture warns us that believing false doctrine and false teaching lands people in hell.

The apostle Paul warns against false gospels in the opening sentences of his letter to the churches in Galatia and says that anyone who teaches a gospel contrary to the one he preached ‘let him be eternally condemned’. (Gal 1:6-8)

Paul also warns about putting up with people who proclaim ”another Jesus“ and says that they lead people astray from a sincere devotion to Christ.

2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and tpure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes and uproclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept va different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.

Jesus himself warns us that we ‘worship god in vain’ if we follow man-made rules and traditions. (Mark 7:6-8)

Scripture also tells us what the standard is for church leaders as it relates to sound doctrine. Here is what Paul wrote on the matter….

Titus 1:9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

Therefore, scripture is clear we are not to teach false doctrine and to rebuke those who do.

With this in mind let us consider the work of the Rev. Ken Silva and his attempts to bring to light the un-Biblical behavior of the Rev. Ed Young Jr. the Southern Baptist Minister of Fellowship Church in Grapevine, TX. Pastor Young has allowed Dr. T.D. Jakes to preach at his church.

What’s the big deal you ask? Answer, Dr. T.D. Jakes denies the Biblical doctrine of the Trinity.

Why is that important? Answer, it’s important because T.D. Jakes is teaching a Jesus who is different than the Biblical Jesus. T.D. Jakes is also preaching a different Gospel than the Biblical Gospel.

What is at stake? The very souls of those listening and believing T.D. Jake’s message as well as the example being set by Pastor Young.

By sharing his pulpit with T.D. Jakes rather than rebuking him, Pastor Young has become an accomplice in a ‘Spiritual Crime’.

When you take the time to study scripture in-depth, you begin to see that these are much more than mere differences of opinion over ‘unimportant’ doctrines. These doctrinal differences strike at the very heart of the nature of who God is, how we are to worship God and how we are saved. These differences are as different as darkness is from light and truth is from a lie.

If you would like a solid introduction to the Biblical basis of the doctine of the Trinity, then I recommend this article on the docrine of the Trinity by a Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller of Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colorado.
