Christian Singer Tackles Controversial Social Issues
Published November 1st, 2007 by Ken Silva in Emerging Church, General News, New EvangelicalismChris Welch of The Hunstville Times writes:
Derek Webb is a Christian singer/songwriter who loves performing and delivering his heartfelt and sometimes controversial messages at churches. Unfortunately, not all churches feel the same way…
[Webb speculates] "The church has been co-opted and been a puppet of the conservative party system, and in a two-party system, that’s dangerous. I’ve really tried to agitate things by singing and writing songs that dismantled some of that framework."
And now the countermove in this game of spiritual chess. I can just as easily say:
The church is being hijacked and made into a puppet of the left-wing red letter Christian party system of the emerging church and in a two-party system, that’s dangerous. Some are really trying to defend against this new kind of liberalism through websites and writing articles that expose some of that subversion.
