Perspective on New Life Shooting
Published December 13th, 2007 by Paul Walker in GeneralWith fear and trembling I approach this difficult subject. Lest our "friends" at another site think that CRN is monolithic, I’d like to address this issue.
Firstly, well-meaning Christians have always had disagreements, especially over the issue of resistance to violence. For the record, I found the comments from Shammah’s blog to be insensitive and ignorant in the extreme. As a person who has worked professionally as an armed guard, one takes the responsibility of carrying a firearm into danger very seriously. This brave woman will live with this the rest of her life. Many years ago in Delta, Colorado a bank robber who shot and killed a young banker was subsequently shot and killed by a fellow on the street. That man’s life was ruined by the foolishness of "Monday morning quarterbacks" and the bankrobber’s family. It would behoove all of us to at least let the facts come out before we make judgments.
Secondly, I received a wonderful e-mail from my son regarding the sort of things we talk about here. He was writing regarding some of the garbage we spread among ourselves to bolster our own righteousness. Here’s a taste…
"We are to be more concerned with the souls of men, not which group does more crime. We are all grievous criminals without Christ. This kind of thing only makes me hate those who are me without Christ…."
In John MacArthur’s book "Why Government Can’t Save You", he addresses the issue of political activism in the Church. It causes us to hate the very people we are to be proclaiming the gospel to. The Emergents tend to lean far to the left and the Conservatives far to the right. Forget about saving the world politically or socially and start preaching the Gospel to hopelessly lost men who can only be saved by a miraculous intervention of a Sovereign and Loving God.
Frankly, I’m tired of being lampooned by the supposedly loving and tolerant crowd and being besmirched by guilt by association with people who hold to extreme forms of fatalism.
I’m more interested in proclaiming the Biblical Gospel of a Savior who interposed His precious blood on my behalf. Let’s leave behind this kind of silliness. The day is far spent.
