I had an hour phone conversation today with a very articulate and concerned Christian who has listened to VCY America for years. The listener was concerned because of a men’s prayer group that is praying for the destruction of the radio ministry of VCY America, in particular because of VCY’s exposure of Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven movement as unbiblical. The men in the prayer group are members of Elmbrook Church here in Waukesha, Wisconsin–a church that long ago followed after the man-centered church growth philosophies. The spiritual warfare right now is incredible. That we would have those who claim to follow Christ actually pray as a group for the destruction of a ministry that has been broadcasting the Gospel for over 45 years in our city is indicative of the spiritual darkness in the church today. The blind are leading the blind. Those who attack Christians who warn about false teaching are viewed as doing God a favor, just like the Bible predicted. The concerned Christian I spoke with today raised the question–What can we do? I believe that all we can do is pray. We need to pray for the deluded souls in this prayer group that are actively seeking the demise of VCY America, that the scales would fall from their eyes and that the Holy Spirit would show them the evil they are engaged in. Then we should also pray for each and every ministry that is standing for the truth in this age of compromise. The enemy of our souls rests not day or night, seeking to destroy what God is doing. The third thing we need to do is not let these kinds of things distract or alarm us. God will not hear the prayers of those who want destruction of fellow believers and their ministries. Our desires should be redemptive for those who are in error. God is responsible for anything else. Fourthly, situations like these should underscore the spiritual nature of the battle we’re in. We wrestle not against men in misguided prayer groups, but against a spirit world in rebellion against God.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13
